Indigenous People and Climate Change

This week IF Council Chairperson Anders Blom gave a presentation on challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples linked to climate change and the IF approach to work with, for, and by Indigenous Peoples at the United Nations Human Rights Council side event on "The Impact of Climate Change on the Rights of Persons in Vulnerable Situations" organized by the European Union and Kazakstan.

Solutions to climate change will require multisectoral collaboration, Indigenous knowledge, and innovative finance directed and adapted to Indigenous Peoples. Indigenous Peoples have been the world's nature-based solution providers for thousands of years and now manage over 25% of the global landmass which intersects with 40% of all terrestrial protected areas and ecologically intact landscapes. The IF supports Indigenous Peoples in their active role in forest and nature-based solutions worldwide.
