Provide your input today.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1>Sector Standards Project for Oil, Gas and Coal<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3>Now open the public consultation for oil and gas until 6 October<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/media\/sp1bkigw\/og-exposure-draft.pdf\">exposure draft<\/a>&nbsp;and provide your feedback using this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/r1.dotmailer-surveys.com\/690cde57c672a9674j5cdfbed4f1397a6ef-d87bf6b5ca3471904pn72c019b8fcd34ca3e\">online survey<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Why oil, gas and coal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Oil, gas\u202fand coal are the first projects for\u202fdevelopment under the new GRI Sector Standards program. These sectors were prioritized because of their widely documented impacts across economic, environmental and social dimensions, such as impacts on climate change, biodiversity and human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project aims to identify and describe the sectors\u2019 significant impacts and stakeholder concerns from a sustainable development perspective and create a foundation for improving transparency and more consistent reporting from organizations in these sectors. This new addition&nbsp;to&nbsp;the GRI Standards&nbsp;will&nbsp;support&nbsp;organizations in high-impact sectors to&nbsp;identify and&nbsp;address&nbsp;their external impacts,&nbsp;empowering engagement with stakeholders&nbsp;and&nbsp;bringing&nbsp;consistency in how&nbsp;sectors&nbsp;report&nbsp;on&nbsp;sustainable development&nbsp;concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally this Standard was proposed to cover oil, gas and coal. On the advice of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/umbraco\/preview\/?id=1616\">project working group (PWG)<\/a>, coal will be developed as a separate Sector Standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>We need your input<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The exposure draft, as developed by the project working group, identifies reporting across the 22 most critical sustainability topics for organizations with oil and gas activities \u2013 covering climate change, the environment, health and safety, employment, communities, and governance. To contribute to the public comment, download the\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/media\/sp1bkigw\/og-exposure-draft.pdf\">exposure draft<\/a>&nbsp;and fill out\u202fthe\u202f<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/r1.dotmailer-surveys.com\/690cde57c672a9674j5cdfbed4f1397a6ef-d87bf6b5ca3471904pn72c019b8fcd34ca3e\" target=\"_blank\">online survey<\/a>&nbsp;by 6 October 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have developed the following materials to assist you in your review:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>An\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/media\/q2pjjumu\/og-explanatory-memorandum.pdf\">explanatory memorandum<\/a>&nbsp;sets out the objectives of the&nbsp;<em>GRI Sector Standard: Oil and Gas&nbsp;<\/em>project and the significant proposals contained in the exposure draft<\/li><li>A list of\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/media\/xqzdhjqj\/og-exposure-draft-survey-questions.pdf\">questions<\/a>\u202fincluded in the survey\u202f<\/li><li>A\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/media\/nhznarnz\/og-information-sheet.pdf\">GRI Sector Program<\/a>\u202finformation sheet summarizes the concept and proposed structure and explains how they will work in conjunction with the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/media\/wjadbgqg\/universal-exposure-draft.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">exposure draft of the Universal Standards<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>About the project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Oil and gas is the first project to be developed under the new GRI Sector Standards project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April 2020 the GSSB decided to split the scope of the project, and develop a sector standard for oil and gas and a separate standard for coal. The development of these standards follows different timelines.
