The study of coral reef, is focused in two aspects, those are monitoring aspect and rehabilitation aspect. Monitoring aspect is related with the observation on the condition of coral reef ecosystem. The observation is divided into two categories:
- Observation that provides preliminary data and information,
- Periodic observation to know the changes on the ecosystem due to oil and gas development activities.
Meanwhile, the aspect of rehabilitation is a follow up of monitoring activity, especially if the recommendations of monitoring result confirm that the efforts for coral reef recovery and improvement are required. After the effort of rehabilitation, the monitoring aspect becomes a unity to ensure that the rehabilitation effort is effective to recover the ecosystem of coral reef.
